We’re delighted that Year 12 student Sullivan W placed runner-up at this year’s Frankly Speaking Competition at the U.S. Embassy, following opening remarks from the U.S. Ambassador. He was supported by Lucas S, alongside other Debating Society stars: Eden, Bunmi and Daniel.
Over the past 15 years, more than 650 upper secondary students have taken part in the prestigious event, representing schools from London, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford, Coventry and beyond. Normally a debating competition, this year it focused on prepared and extempore speeches, and Sullivan excelled in both formats. In the final round, he had just 30 minutes to prepare a 5 minute extempore on the UK–US special relationship—earning second place.
This continues our students’ remarkable record: two runner-up finishes and a win over the past three years, each with a different team. As part of his prize, Sullivan will enjoy a private tour of the Houses of Parliament with the Rt Hon Baroness Anelay of St Johns DBE.
