Appeals Timetable

The process for appeals for the non allocation of a place starts after offers of places are sent out (in March each year), however Primary Headteachers can recommend that a student's score is reconsidered at a Headteachers’ Appeal meeting (the September Review Process) in the Autumn term before school place offers are made in the following Spring term.

Parents should be aware that, although their child’s score may be just one mark under the selective score, there may be 90 or more students who also scored at that mark.

Appealing the non allocation of a place at Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar School:

There is a right of appeal to an independent School Appeals Panel, which considers each case individually. All secondary schools in Bexley are Academies so the request for an appeal should be made to the relevant school and not the Local Authority.

Appeals Panels are independent of the Council and the school and are set up in accordance with the Department for Education’s Code of Practice on School Appeals. Panels include people with experience of education and ‘lay members’. None of them will have been involved in making the original admission decisions nor will they have any connection with the school for which you are appealing.

Any appeals submitted will be heard in accordance with the timescales set out below.

1. Appellants will receive at least 10 school days’ notice of their appeal hearing. Reasonable deadlines, which should be at least seven working days before the Appeal date, will be set for appellants to submit additional evidence, for the school to submit their evidence, and for the clerk to send appeal papers to the panel and parties.  If these deadlines are not met, the Appeal date may be delayed.
2. Appeals that are lodged on time for applications made under the normal admission round i.e. for Year 7, will be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals.  
3. The parent or carer lodging the appeal will receive at least 10 school days' notice of their appeal hearing.
4. For late applications appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
5. For applications to Sixth Form, the offer place is conditional upon exam results and therefore appeals will be heard within 30 school days of the confirmation of results.
6. For applications for ‘in-year’ admissions, appeals will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
7. Decision letters will be sent within 5 school days of the hearing wherever possible 

The School Appeals Section at the Borough will write to you with a date for your appeal. Any extra papers for the appeal should be with School Appeals Section at least 7 working days before the Appeal date otherwise the date may be delayed.

Please note: Between 2020 and 2024 there were 148 Appeals for a Y7 place at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, on average we receive of 24 appeals per year; there has not been an appeal upheld during this period.

Please note this form can only be completed once your child's school place has been confirmed in March, and this school must have been listed on the child's secondary common application form (SCAF) preferences.

The deadline for lodging an appeal against a decision not to offer a place in Year 7 at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School for September 2026 entry is 27th March 2026.
