Mr M.J.M Brown came to the school as its third Headmaster in September 1967 from Prescot Grammar School in Lancashire. Students knew little of him before he came except that he held degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge universities, his subject was history and he already had considerable experience of that demanding of all past-times - headmastering.
He was remembered as a kindly man who never entertained delusions of vain glory, a man of sympathy for the underdog, whose breezy and friendly manner concealed a genuine concern for all his pupils.
