Curriculum Leader, Mr French's Sports Round Up 2022-23

The 2022-23 season really has been a vintage year for Chis and Sid, here are just some of the highlights:

Netball: once again the girls have continued to exert their dominance at a local level sweeping all before them and being crowned district champions in all age groups. On top of this our very own invincibles - the senior side went unbeaten through their entire league season - playing against women’s teams in the very competitive Swanley league. And as if this wasn’t enough Miss Bunn and her coaching staff ran two highly successful Netball tours this year that saw both junior teams being crowned PGL champions! With the fantastic news that our current netball courts will be undergoing significant renovation at the start of next year and with a large number of girls trialling for Kent, Netball is very firmly on the front foot!

Athletics: at district level we have been hugely successful making two regional finals and putting in a fine display at both. There were some very notable performances from Damilare E. reaching the national triple jump final, Cheyenne N. taking bronze in the national 100m and Ellis I. building on the success of his national gold medal in the Javelin! At district level in the team category’s CSGS won the Bexley Championships in all age groups! A quite remarkable feat!

In total - Four all time school records have fallen this year:

In Javelin Ellis in Y10 threw 51.89m

In the 100m Cheyenne in Y9 ran 12.24secs

In the 800m Aoife in Y8 ran 2.22

And in the 300m Krishna in Y9 ran 41.77  All amazing efforts!

Cricket: our fantastic cricket teams collected a plethora of silverware - all won without a single controversial stumping!

Firstly our girls are going from strength to strength reaching not one, not two but three county finals competitions. They are getting a well-deserved reputation as a tough team to beat.

Our boys cleaned house in the North Kent cup taking all four titles last week while at the same time the senior boys achieved the honour of being the number 1 ranked school team in the country! Bazball was in full swing this summer!

Tennis: back on the extracurricular program after many years in exile. We have the efforts of Mrs Coxall to thank for its resurgence and what a season the U13 boys team have had - undefeated in the qualifying rounds against far more established schools they came 3rd in the county finals only narrowly missing out on 2nd! A truly magical season!

In Dance we once again qualified for the London Youth Games finals as district winners in both KS3&4! This secured an invite to the Copper Box at the Olympic Park to perform against the best in London, in front of a huge crowed. As ever our students did us proud at this prestigious event!

Finally: Onto the oval shaped ball: for so many people, even with no association to our school the words rugby and Chis n Sid are completely synonymous. This year has only served to cement that idea. In our regular 15s season of Saturday fixtures against some of the best rugby schools in the SE we were very competitive in all age groups but really came alive in the 7s season with some exceptional displays at county and national level.

Two teams to briefly highlight: Firstly the year 9s have shown colossal improvement and progress, from start to finish they were truly unrecognisable!

And a special mention goes to our almost indomitable year 10s made the national vase final at Twickenham which speaks for itself.
